Ken,
I do not know what you mean by "solder sample board".  Do you mean a junk
board, i.e. one that is not going to be used because it is the wrong vintage
or has improper labeling, etc?  If this is the case and it will see the same
reflow profile, has the same thermal mass and components of the same
technology level as your regular production boards, then knock yourself out
(Hmm, maybe I should avoid the colloquial reference - what I mean is go
ahead and use it.)  If it does not meet these criteria, then see if you can
have a pack that has failed at test that you can cut up.
