Actually, I think the reason for the 'extra' terms (supported &
unsupported) is because there are several ways to electrically connect
the pad on a through-hole. Not only is there plating, but remember
they used to rivet some holes. (May still do this for some processes,
but I don't know what design considerations would require a rivet.
Mebby current capacity or mechanical strength?) So the terms
supported & unsupported are actually generic terms that refer to the
specific terms plated, riveted, etc... & non-plated, non-rivited,
non-etc... respectively.
Now, I may be way off base here, but it seems to make sence.
