Hi Gang!
Well, when you want to know something a about a particular component, call
the manufacturer...and that's what I did.
Called Harting Inc. in Elgin, Illinois (the vendor of the press-fit I'm
using) and learned why it's not a good thing to wave solder press-fits.
1. The compliant zone of the pins are Nickel plated
- Nickel doesn't solder well (liquidous is 1453º C., no metalurgical bond
there!)
2. The connector housing has an open bottom, flux can get up inside the
housing and not be cleaned thoroughly creating corrosion problems in the
mating
area of the connector.
Sounds good enough to me...
