Yasmeen,
Sheet resistivity (Rs) refers to the resistance of a planar
resistive layer and is generally expressed as
"ohms-per-square." There is no dimension associated with
this metric. For example, a sheet resistivity of 25
ohms/square means that any sized square shaped resistive
element created out of that layer will have a resistance of
25 ohms.
The actual resistance of a specific planar resistor is a
function of the sheet resistivity and the ratio of the
length of the resistor to its width. This ratio is sometimes
referred to as the "number-of- squares" (N).
Accordingly, the resistance in ohms of a specific planar
resistor is given by the formula:
R = Rs x N, or
R = Rs x W/L.
