I agree with Sunil. Who keeps a computer long enough to hit a failure point
anyhow, even with shutting down every night? I would worry more about power
failures and other glitches during the off hours, that could have a more
serious effect (on it and the surroundings).
The comment on the fire hazard makes me think I should be disconnecting
also. I think I will consider doing same at home with computer, TV, and
toaster! (The last certainly IS a proven fire hazard.) Of course, here in
Pittsburgh, the frequent threat of thunderstorms makes this a good idea
anyhow.

My three cents, or least what I'm being compensated for - with the purchase
of dependable hardware (meaning components with a proven track record), the
design is such that life expectancy of thousands of cycles can be safely
assumed. Those components with short life expectancies are weeded out by
manufacturer tests or are covered by warranties (I never buy anything with
a 30-60-90 day warranty - has to be a year plus). Given that, powering
down saves you $3500 for the year (BIG COMPANY 'wee', small company 'BONUS
TIME'). But then again, the costs associated with returning defective
equipment will exceed the $3500 ('aahh'). So, buy each other lunch and
call it even. Just promise not to discuss any more money saving ideas. ':)'
