Re: (49 lines)
What a debate, Kathy! The gurus woke up, waves are roaming, also some
whispers. Have not seen dewetting on PWBs since muchos aņos. But the
stew have more components, like RF glass beads, like SOP gull wings etc.
And dewetting plagued our Q responsibles, and they shouted, but the
screams were only found to be disturbing, closed doors were better
temporary solution. My sight (selfcritic) is that the process/material
people, despite great competence, did not use their voice resources, or
charm, or right psychology. Design and Purchase regarded them as boring,
introverted, pessimistic, greyish specialists, so they talked cross
their skulls. A representative from the 'upper' class said: "you people
(Q-material-processes) are so anonymous, come out of the darkness and
tell us about your world". What a slap! But with a lot of sence. Much is
changed since that time (I still talk about my company), we are more
offensive and we spread our message better, but still: how many of the
electrical design engineers or purchasers come to the 'introverted'
peoples seminars and meetings, or read the 'greyish' peoples reports or
have a direct line to the process engineer? Also: still 'they' can be
impatient when you (with the report in your hand) try to explain the
risks with e.g. dewetting, what it means, what it costs, why the
components can't be used, the amazing lot of countermeasures that have
to be withtaken to avoid that kind of traps and so on. Just one hand up
and 'yes, yes, yes, all that stuff is certainly interesting for YOU (!!)
but just give me a yes or no, right or left, I have to go for a course
in Switzerland this evening. Concurrent engineering, you know.'

This gave little technical adds to the debate but, hopefully, a push for
someone not to give up and say "they don't listen to me". 'They' will
listen and be even grateful, I'm sure. They need you!

Regards/Ingemar

PS. This was heard from a boss 10 years ago: "Many good people end their
career as a quality manager, that's really sad."...... - No one dares to
say that within our company today! DS.
