Along these lines, I am looking for suggestions from the industry "experts" as
to recommendations for obtaining Cpk data at the wave soldering process. I know
some are very variable and there are no direct means of control. What are the
accepted recommended process parameters to monitor in a noclean spray fluxing
dual wave setup with nitrogen and airknife? I looking for process control
measures and methods of obtaining them.

Rick,
I teach Six Sigma and for what its worth the three books that have made it
into my DoE library are:

Design and Analysis of Experiments, 4th edition, Montgomery
        A detailed tools book

        Improving Quality Through Planned Experimentation,
Moen/Nolan/Provost
        Good conceptual explanations

        Understanding Variation, Wheeler
My personal favorite for getting the big picture across

Understand also that a DoE is not the solution to every problem. Several
other tools are more appropriate; depending on what your trying to do.
Process Mapping; FMEA, Failure Mode Effects Analysis; MSE, Measurement
Systems Evaluation; ANOVA, Analysis of Variation; and COV, Components of
Variation are just a few of the other tools that can be used. Check out some
of the industry trade publications for more info on literature and training
on these tools.

Subject: [TN] DOE & SPC Recommendations?

I'm looking for recommendations for books or other resources regarding
Desing of Experiments and SPC techniques, specifically as they may apply to
surface mount assembly. Anybody have any favorite books, etc in either area
that they'd care to share?

Thanks.
