Some more thoughts....
In my company we made 100% nodal access as the bottom line. The PCB designers
and test engineers actually shifted the debate to the probe density (should we
go for the finest 50mil probes?), the minimum test pad size, 2-sided access vs
1-sided, the minimum test pad clearance to components, mounting holes, etc.
They all affect the ease of layout but also the fixturing cost and probe
maintenance.
