        Hi Dave and All,

A really basic question, what is your big picture?
Why are you collecting the data?
What is done with the data once it is collected?

How you count defects should depend on what you want to do with the
data.

If you want an idea of how many boards to schedule through the shop
you want an overall yield.
I schedule 100 boards to get 75 out to the Assembly shop and
end up with 70 going to the customer.
This would also give you an idea of whether you will make
that production deadline with or without overtime, ordering more materials,
etc.

If you are more interested in knowing how well you make boards you
can count # defects per board and the kinds of defects seen. Hopefully,
somebody uses that info to make process improvements.

        Hans
