I've used Conceptronic, Air-Vac, and now SRT (for over a year). Each has
good attributes. If some were combined into one great machine, that would be
great.

Right now, the SRT 2100 series equipment has held my interest, as well it
should, because it is much less operator dependent than some of its
predecessors. However, I liked the top end Air-Vac a couple of years ago and
have just gotten information about its improvements making it seem a very
good candidate.

You can catch my BGA rework article on the SMTnet's SMTexpress monthly
publication. I provides in depth information and photos while I was
developing the SRT 1000 at H-P.

I've used the H-P 5DX machine as a laminographic X-Ray capability. It weighs
in at 8000 lbs because of size, granite, and lead sheilding. We had this
machine, of course, at H-P and we just bought one here at Celectica WI. It
is a high resolution grey scale machine with fairly straight forward
programming, setup, and operation. It's pictures tell the story about
voiding, bridging/shorting, and insufficients.

Other X-Ray capabilities tell the story a little less in detail but will get
you through development and protos. After that, X-Ray and BGA's don't need
to mix except when shorting is found at electrical test.

Check out the article and I'll provide more information as you wish,

Earl Moon
