The comment was made that a citrus cleaner dissolved Teflon* tape. There are
many co-polymers of TFE that make it more tractable and of course lower the
cost.
I would suspect that your "teflon tape" is such a material; especially if the
tape is a copolymer of TFE, ethylene and/or an acrylate. The first such
polymer of this type was named Tefzel*. It featured a high concentration of
TFE, had the same excellent dielectric properties, great insulating
propertries, yet could be easily bent and pulled through tight spaces (high
lubricity) which made it ideal for use in railroad locomotive applications.
