I have used, selective pallets on a wave, focused light beam soldering
(Panasonic) and selective dip soldering (Exselect). All have good and bad
features. I have also seen applications using a robotic point to point with
a soldering tip (JOT), as well as a robot that does oddform insertion and
soldering in the same cell (JOT). They also worked well. I would ask
several different vendors to solder actual product for you while you watch.
If you can't afford the travel, have each one solder your product and record
video of the process, then return the product and video to you for
comparisons.
