Be carefull. If you can make it work, you're better than most OEMs. The only
fixed head fluxers I have seen for sale recently are Nordson. Electrovert,
USI, AT&T (when they still made fluxers) all switched to reciprocating
fluxers due to technical problems.

Theoretical,

Expect uneven spray patterns. If a nozzle is even slightly clogged, the other
nozzles will see higher pressure.

Actual:
Expect reduced yield on certain types of components.
I have used fixed head fluxers in the past. The main drawback is component
shadowing and dead spots from dirty nozzles.

Shadowing is very difficult to fix. On one specific panel at a previous
employer, we offset the nozzle from center and oversprayed one side. It
soldered, but created a mess.

I also once had a tech "fix" a broken reciprocating mechanism by fixing the
head (on third shift). This raised flux levels 2-3X, since the "off" setting
and overspray were turned off. We had a shift of scrap.

Reciprocating heads can handle small dead spots, since the "good" portion of
the pattern is wiped across the entire panel.

Hello Technet

We currently use a reciprocating head type spray fluxer and are
contemplating turning it into a series of stationary heads instead. The
boards we run are consistent enough that width will not be a problem. Has
anyone had experience with a similar setup or does anyone have advice to
offer?

We want to eliminate some of the PM required on the reciprocating head
cylinder due to overspray.

Thanks in advance,
