Richard,

  We normally use round lighted lenses ( 3x ) to overral inspection and
microscope to check places that operators are not sure that were good on the
previous inspection. Some operators claim about headache if continuos use of
microscope is required, so we try to avoid this situation using microscope
only to check doubts had on the first inspection.
  Check the operator vision health before assign him this job.Some people
didn`t realize that they can`t see very clear.
  Regarding with AOI ( Automated Optical Inspection ) equipments I am not
familiar with, but I don`t known how this system can handle HASL boards if
the contrast between the solder and pad is too little. Someone has the
answer ???
