Hi Darrel,

As a designer, I always preferred the notch be part of the board outline in the database. This allows the automatic checking routines to flag any errors. This should be part of the design guide.

As a fabricator these notches can be shown with a dimension to the center of the notch along with a radius dimension. Or, a dimension to each edge of the notch, the depth of the notch and a FULL R notation.

TechNetters,

What is the proper way to document a notch on the edge of a PWB?

I have an application where a connector requires two notches on the PWB edge.
How do I dimension these two notches for the PWB fabricator, which are
essentially a half circle from the edge of the PWB, with the edge being the
circle diameter (2x radius) and the penetration into the PWB being the
circle radius?
Is it a note on the fab drawing with dimension data, a hole chart entry,
something else??
How should it be documented in the Gerbers, as clearances and spacings must
be maintained
to remain in compliance with PWB edge specifications?

What do designers do and fabricators prefer to see as documentation for
this situation??
Any suggestions appreciated.

Regards.......DT
