Ted,

Did you inspect the film on the anodes? The anodes should display a
tenacious black film. If this film is not present, you should engage in low
current density electrolysis for 1-2 hours to "film" the anodes.

However, high brightener will cause low current density dullness until the
additive has undergone some electrolysis. You should investigate the cause
of the brightener content as well. The main reason that the full brightness
comes back after a few loads is that the additive has been partially
consumed, and is then brought back in balance.

        Subject: [TN] Copper Anodes

I am presently seeing a problem with our hi-phos 1" round copper
anodes,
and am wondering if someone out there has experienced the same.

The problem is, that when we add the copper anodes to the baskets at
an end
to a shift, we see dull plating for at least 1 - 2 loads, after
which we
        see good brightness.

Investigation has shown that we are high in brightner, and there is
some
organics present (some dullness in the low current density area seen
on
        hull cells) in the baths.

Can this be the sole reason for this problem, or can there also be
problems
        with the anodes themselves.

We have tried washing the anodes prior to use - but the inident
still
        occurs.

I would appreciate any help from someone who has experienced similar
        problems.

        Ted
