I have found that numerous adhesives will pass a sniff test, being
"hermetic" for short durations.  However, I have not found one to be
hermetic over the "long-haul" like a metal package with good glass to metal
seals.

Polymer seals have been good for many commercial or industrial applications
over the years, but give me a truely HERMETIC, metal to metal seal for the
high rel applications.
