Dale,

Sound like you need to replace the battery on the CMOS.  With a
fresh battery, the time and date should be retained when the
machine is powered down.  You will of course have to reset the
time and date after you install the new battery (in DOS use TIME
and DATE commands), for Windows simply click on time in task
bar.
