<< Hi All,

I am looking for a chemical testing company to analyze our tin-lead solder
 for gold and aluminum contamination.

We would like to find one close-by - within the beautiful state of Georgia.
They must accept a credit card for payment.

 Any suggestions?

Hello Hans,

I know there should be somewhere in the "Peachy" state of "Joe-jah" that
can do solder analysis for ya', but I don't have anyplace handy right now.
However, Des Plaines, Illinois ain't that far up the road, that's where
Kester is located...and I'm sure if you got valid plastic, they'll take it!

You get the results back within 48-hours after the sample is recieved. Here's
a paste from their WEB page:

Analysis Options
The Kester Solder Analysis Program is designed to provide the control
required for a quality soldering process. Sample-mailer envelopes include
documentation and instructions for sending the solder sample to the Kester
Analytical Laboratories. Selection of the analysis option which best monitors
the composition will assure quality control of the solder.

Option A
Many Solder applications require only this basic analysis which includes tin,
antimony, copper and gold.

Option C
For very critical soldering applications there may be a requirement to
monitor other impurities in the solder. This option choice includes cadmium,
aluminum, zinc, iron, arsenic, bismuth, silver and nickel in addition to
those in Option A.

Option D

The D revision of MIL-STD-454 and WS-6536 require the analysis to include
sulfur and phosphorous. This option choice includes these impurities in
addition to those in Option C.

Quantity Option A Option C
Option D

12 - 23 $27.00 ea. $45.00 ea. $70.00 ea.
24 - 47 $24.00 ea. $40.00 ea. $65.00 ea.
48 - 119 $21.00 ea. $35.00 ea. $60.00 ea.
120 and over $18.00 ea. $31.00 ea. $56.00 ea.

Analysis Report
Each analytical report is reviewed by the Analytical Laboratory to determine
the quality of the solder. The analytical report is mailed with 48 hours
after receipt of the solder sample. Expedited service is available by
facsimile (FAX) transmission. Recommendations are made based on the
contamination levels shown in the analysis so a decision can be made to
continue using the solder or to replace it. The analysis report is in
compliance with MIL-STD-454, WS-6536, DOD-2000 and IPC-S-815.

How to Use This Service
An initial analytical control can be established by sending a solder sample
for analysis once a month for 3 - 6 months. The usable life of the solder and
the frequency of required analyses can then be determined. The sampler-mailer
envelopes include the necessary documentation and instructions, are
registered to the purchaser and addressed to the Kester Analytical Laboratory
to assure prompt, direct response.
