All,

I use Veribest 98 and am looking forward to VB99 release in April 99.

I have used PCAD, MAXROUTE, PADS, SPECCTRA, TANGO and all are low end
junk but you can make them work with great effort and frustration. I
have hundreds of designs completed with these backwards tools. I did
everything I could to troubleshoot the tools and write code to fixup the
holes which I used internally.

Intergraph is POWERFUL and not in the same class with the above RIF-RAF!
The company is a class act. They pursue quality and get it into the
tool.

However, the software version VB98 is very hard to learn and training
cost are high.
The new software VB99 should be easier to learn.

If you can afford it, your production capacity will double or triple.
Customers can't feed the data fast enough.
So, much more work gets done at higher quality. The gridless auto
interactive route editor gives me the power to get things right without
much more effort.
The ECO process is smart. Just reload the netlist. As a service, I have
to work with outside netlists (Orcad etc.) It works VERY WELL, very
smart. Customers want changes fast and a smart ECO process is key.

If you use the tool on a real design, it will not take long to realize
what junk you have now.
I'm so glad to compete with all the other laggard and tired tools out
there and
the CAD companies' sorry excuse for "support" (read:extortion for
suckers.)

Low end tools are so weak! The "support" was poor and tool
"improvements" were made before BUGS were fixed. The "improvements"
didn't work well while some bugs are NEVER fixed. The BUGS hit you over
and over. You live with them year after year.

This reduces the enjoyment that the work can bring as you see products
come to life.
What pain is endured as they crash, as you rework, as ECO rips up wires
with the same connections but a different netname. The utter stupidity
of tool processes is paid for by the late nights and at the worst times.
And low end tools have "improvements".
The "improvements" are marketing gimmicks to draw new customers while
you paid for their development. A raw and bad deal!

Veribest emerges:
(but expensive compared to low end tools)
My life is better now. I can concentrate on the job and not bugs and
workarounds.
Constant CAD tool problems were so bad that I almost left the business.
I could get a job easily writing code or building hardware, but I wanted
my own business.
Now I ship higher quality boards and enjoy the work I do.
I make more money since I get more done.
