Guys,
We are designing a very very small board (for component replacement). As the
board will be having a components on topside only, we can use the bottom
side to make a connection with the main board. Currently the main board has
many small square pads in perimeter.

I am exploring the two ways of connecting both boards. First one, connect
the small board by having mirror pads on the bottom side to that of the main
board. Or by having a slit (long pads along perimeter) on the component
board and have the main board as it is with small pads in perimeter. I do
not want to modify my main board.

Should I go for butt joint connection through mirror pad design or long
connection knowing that there will be no connection where there is a
soldermask on the main board. Any suggestion from manufacturing and
reliability point of view.

I hope, I haven't confuse anyone.

Ken Patel
