John,
Winslow Automation purchased the SolderQuik product line from Raychem about
2 years ago. It consists of 3 products.
1. SolderQuik tape is a comb like polyimide (kapton) tape with a ribbon of
flattened solder wire. It is used primarily to mount ribbon cables to PC
boards. I presume this is the product Michael is speaking of. (What a
memory, I can't even remember what the salesman described to me last month)
Unfortunately, I don't think it will work in your application.
2. SolderQuik BGA is used for reballing.
3. SolderQuik CCMD/CGA is used for attaching solder columns to components.
The BGA and CGA products use a water soluble paper. Only the solderquik
tape uses kapton.

In your application it sounds like the dougnut solder preforms from Alpha
Metals, or Indium, or the solder bearing leads from Tekka would be your best
bet. Unless anyone else can come up with some creative solutions.

I hope this helps

Regards, Russ Winslow

John-

About 5 years ago, at a previous employer, I thought someone from Raychem
showed me solder preforms on a disposable carrier. It may have been for a
connector solder tail pattern, maybe for leaded ICs, I just don't recall.

If we had purchased and used this product, I'm sure my memory would be much
better on this topic.

Good luck. Let us know if you do find anything.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer or vendor that may make or sell this
product, if it exists? We are basically looking for individual preform
"doughnuts" that are held in place by Kapton or some other similar material,
that can be removed after re-flow. I looked into Winslow Automation's
SolderQuick product, but apparently they only do re-balling for BGAs on
Kapton like material. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
