Hi TechNet! If your are tired of hearing about the Lead free issues then
please hit your delete key....... but I thought I would pass on an
interesting perspective from a very wise mentor I pester with questions and
ask for his opinion periodically.

"Everything on the planet is toxic to most/many living organisms at some
given level - check the medical journals to see what happens to the human
body after the consumption of 40 - 8 ounces glasses of water (helpful hint
- you are given an engineering cubical that is very quiet and 6 feet lower
than standard). Our jobs as technologists' are to produce science based,
logical approaches to solve potential problems that may impact our industry
or overall environment in a cost effective manner. Most folks want to be as
"green" as possible for themselves and the next generation. We need to be
as proactive as possible in our efforts to find lead free electronic
solutions - but with the lead contribution of the electronics industry to
landfills as being documented as 0.6% of the total lead landfill
contributions, the enormous impact on the raw material supply, and the
temperature impacts on current component functionality it seems that more
science, less legislation would be a more common sense approach. "

I think the more science based data/information that can be brought into
the Lead free debate, the better off our industry will be. There will be
several conferences addressing the Lead Free Debate in the next few months
- if you have some data that can be useful put a paper together and be
proactive!
