Hi everybody

Ok, I may be out of line here as I'm no expert either on lead/unleaded soldering materials, but as
environmentalist I have to speak up here. I am only new to the field of electronics design and manufacture,
but have a bit more experience in the field of environmental assessment of products, by means of a
technique called Life Cycle Assessment. This technique allows for a complete comparison of the use of two
materials over their complete life cycle, meaning from the point where it is extracted from the earth in
any which way, to the point of where it is released back into the environment.

I would sincerely hope that before deciding to enforce legislation as such on the removing of leaded
solders people have performed life cycle assessment studies on alternative materials (even though I am not
into the area enough anymore to know of any personally, I might be able to find out and if this is not the
case I guess I better shut up quickly ;-)

If possible I would like to see a copy of the proceedings mentioned and see the results, but remember that
you cannot judge environmental impact just by what happens when you dump a material.

My two cents....open to suggestions..

Nils
