Fellow Techies:

My company is currently initiating an SPC program to help control our SMT
processes. I would like to benchmark what statistical process control methods
and systems the industry is currently using. We are a high mix low volume
facility that use an MPM 2700 printer (with vision system), Fuji CP and IP
placers, and Vitronics ovens. However, we are currently stopping the line and
making adjustments according to inspection and audit results.

We are interested on focusing on process inputs. Can anyone please share
what lessons learned, and what process controls they currently have in place for
this type of processes/equipment. SPC charts? X-chart, C-chart,P-chart,
U-chart? How data is collected and used? What software/hardware is being used?

Currently, we are calculating DPMO's to monitor line and product
performance, but we are finding out that the DPMO target values (<75) are too
small of a number to stop lines and adjust processes. Plus, this is a reactive
step, not a preventive step.

Any comments/suggestions. Any information is appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
