- Minimum electrical clearance, as used in IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001, is
intended to refer to the separation of electrical conductors.  The separation
minimum values are a design driven value related to the voltage between
conductors and the environment in which the pwa is to be used.  Minimum values
are provided by Table 6-1 of IPC-2221 and range from 0.05mm to 1.5mm,
dependent on voltage/environment.  First establish the design needs of the
assembly, relate those needs to Table 6-1, then give your inspectors a visual
aid crutch (thickness of a business card, diameter of a paper clip, etc.) that
is equal to the required minimum electrical clearance.  Note that concerns of
lateral and vertical cross talk are discussed by Table 3-1 of IPC-2221.
