Hello Stephen,
Perhaps you can avoid wave soldering in mass production with
these reflowable connectors from Samtec. Check out this website:
http://www.samtec.com/np_mwashr.htm (I have no own experiences, but
the principle looks well. Maybe your CAD designer has to do some
black magic with the necessary stencils..... ).
