Maybe another idea would be to create your own socket or daughter card
to mount the SSOP device onto.
You could have panels assembled with the SSOP and some SIP headers, then
you would have a direct replacement part to use until you can update
your designs.
We have found this is cheaper to do than buying specialized sockets for
our high volumes.
