Gentlemen,

Good morning! Chilly here in Lexington KY - 2 degrees with the wind chill
factor!

We utilize a VOC free flux for wave soldering. It is 97% water based, and
applied with an ultrasonic spray fluxer. The preheats are forced convection and
reach approximately 110 C prior to the wave.

Subject: Re: [TN] Water contents in no clean flux

Most No-clean fluxes use IPA as a solvent and contain no water. If you are
using no-clean flux with a foaming fluxer it is possible for water to be
taken up into the flux over time as it is used (by absorption from the
atmosphere). This can cause spitting over the pot due to the water not
having been dried out by the preheaters, which can cause problems.
There are, however some fluxes (the VOC free fluxes) that use water as a
solvent instead of IPA, and therefore require a different profile to
achieve proper drying of the flux before the pot.

Subject: [TN] Water contents in no clean flux

     All,

Would like to know if fresh no clean flux should contain water. If
yes, what is the purpose and what is the appropriate level of the
     water content?

     Appreciate if any suggestons.
