<< Steve,

I have experienced the exact same part and the associated
problems, in fact I have some of the buggers sitting on my desk right
now. Search for a company named teka that makes the pc 104 connectors
with solder and flux in the leads. All you have to do is hand place
them before smt reflow and everybody is happy. Good luck.

Steve,
It sure sounds like something I went through at a CM I was at a couple
of years ago. Is kester telling you the truth? That I can not answer,
but I think I have a solution for you. There is a company called TEKA
Interconnection, they make connectors like you have described. These
connectors have what they call solder bearing technology. They look
pretty cool. I was in the process of trying this out but never finished,
I moved on to another CM. Anyway, if you would like this information
please send me you fax # and I will send to you.

John, you da' MAN!..and Angie you da' Ma...er, ahhh..I mean, uhhhhh...you da'
BABE!! (GRIN)

Both ya'll hit the nail right on the HEAD! This is ab-so-tively what I was
lookin' for! Not bad prices either considering what it would cost otherwise to
put the bloody things in the board. Just over the phone pricing was in qtys.
of 500-999, the 40-pin is $2.98, and the 64-pin is $3.86. From qtys. of
1000-2499 the 40-pin is $2.64 and the 64-pin is $3.43...

But you're not gonna believe this, (all ya'll in contract manufacturing will
relate) Since these boards are consigned, I called the contact I deal with at
our customer (he's a buyer, deals with all the subs contractors too), told him
what I'd found, explained to him the better quality they'll get with these
connectors and the reasons why, how it'll improve the through-put here, and
last but not least how much easier it'll be for us to build their boards for
them, and guess what his reply was? "I don't think we'll want to change
vendors...that means we'll have to change the AVL, blah, blah, blah..." Can
you believe it? It's the same friggen connector!!

But I sure ain't givin' up that easy!! I gotta talk to an engineer over there,
someone that understands... I can't believe it. But that's par for the course,
same kinda' thing happens a lot when you try to get a customer to change a
footprint, or ask them to put a fiducial someplace on the board so you can
give them a better product and make it easier for you to build. Oh well...I
know I'll make a good father someday when I finally settle down. All the
patience I've had to learn workin' in contract companies, kids will be a piece
o' cake! (GRIN...right?)

Thank ya' kindly John and Angie!
