Subject: Re: [TN] immersion white tin finish
Importance: High

The comments on Omikron fit with what we have found. This seems
to be the better of the immersion tin finishes and certainly seems to be
as good as a good HASL finish. (not all HASL finishes are actually that
good!)

We are a UK company and our trials with certain other immersion
tins have proved disappointing even though they seem to have sold quite
well in the states.

The biggest problem we seem to have is people (customers) appear
to have been brain washed into believing HASL is THE finish to have and
it is extremely difficult convincing people that it is not the be all
and end all.

Initial testing of the Omikron finish using a meniscograph show good
wetting forces but once exposed to humidity conditioning of 85C/85RH,
solderability deteriorates due to oxidized copper tin intermetallics on
the surface. If there were a guarantee of using this finish within a week
then it could be a good finish.
