DT,
We have routed assemblies for many years. We have not seen any negative effects
of routing wrt vibration. We are directing our designs towards V-notch -
automatic separation. We do not break apart unsupported cards - due to stress
that can be caused by bending forces.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [TN] PWA Routing
TechNet,
Opinions requested.
I have some PWAs (assembled) that had rails added to the PWB for processing
purposes. These were to be removed but were not. The CM indicates they
will route them off.
I am very concerned about the effect vibration will have on the components
and general ESD/Debris control relative to the PWA.
IPC-D-279 mentions vibration and shock as things to be aware of, and in
Section 7.7 says that either
"snap" tabs or "full board routing" can be done.
Is routing a normal/acceptable method given the vibration of the PWA?
Any info appreciated.
Tks.......DT
