Sheila,

We prepare the polyimide boards by scotch-briting the surface to remove any
gloss and then submersion in an alcohol/water bath at 120 F for two hours.

Do you think that the anodize or Iridite coatings would either remove or coat
the Silicon found in the Aluminum casting alloy? We think that this may cause
a problem in bonding.

Jim,

Unsealed anodize would be best but chromate conversion coating, ie Iridite or
Alodine, brush applied, will work or a really clean abraded aluminum surface
provided you get good wetting from your epoxy and it is compliant enough to
work between the two surfaces. How are you prepping the polyimide?

Subject: [TN] SURFACE PREPARATION OF ALUMINUM

I'm looking for a procedure to prepare a cast aluminum (A356) core for epoxy
bonding to a polyimide PWB. Any Recommendations?
