Allen,
One advantage of Metcal irons is they require no calibration and the tips are designed at set temperatures....... one thing I especially like about our Metcal equipment is the design of tips that are extremely easy to insert and remove, when you need to make constant changes in rework tool size for various components (no unscrewing allen screws that fall out and get lost). However, Metcal tips tend to be a bit more expensive but once you've used one, you'll find it's worth it. The advantage to the Pace rework stations is that we can set very exact temperatures that are computer monitored and maintained for special products that are subject to different levels of thermal shock (if you require that). We utilize both for our soldering and rework needs...... I highly recommend one of the two.

Technetters,

I'm looking into purchasing a rework/repair station. During my research, I
have noticed that there are four major competitors: Pace, Metcal, Weller,
and Hakko. Can anyone tell me the pros/cons about any of these or any other
manufacture of rework stations?

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.
