Maybe "without analysis and documented problems", but using dissimilar
metals within separable contacts is not a good practice. Very few people
look at those IC leads under a SEM after a few years, they just re-seat the
part and go on.

Gold is more noble than tin, there is potential for galvanic corrosion. It
may be true that tin-lead IC leads in gold sockets is a common bad
practice, but I'd call it Bill Clinton logic to doubt the risk of the
practice. Bellcore and other credible design specifications prohibit use of
dissimilar metals.

Of course, the RCA jacks on my stereo receiver at home have tin-lead jacks,
and I noticed the cables which came with my CD player have gold plated
plugs. I'm not too concerned about this, but if my Tom Petty vocals sound a
bit distorted at high volume, no one will complain.
