A couple of years ago, the TechNet was a fairly new thing. The subscribers
would ask questions, some of us with a bit of time on their hands or the
willingness to stay until 7 PM would answer questions we found interesting.
The popularity of the whole mail list increased, the number and range of
questions, and the number of responses. Some of this may take the form of
"noise" if one chooses to be critical.

Someone at IPC arbitrarily picked about five frequent TechNet posters,
asked us if we would participate in a panel discussion at the IPC
conference in Naples, Florida, and we were called "Legends".

Speaking personally, I disclaim "legendary" status, and I believe those
other speakers to be more qualified than I; but:

My advice and answers here are unaffected by commercial motivations. Most
of them are correct, and based on production experience in the industry
over twenty years. I have never been in sales. I think that the other
"legends" can make the very same claims.

The information which can be found in free postings here is more extensive,
timely, and valuable than that which was (or will be) presented in any
panel discussion, but is NOT intended (at least from me) to move the entire
industry or establish any long range trends. But you will have to accept
some dross with the pure alloy, I'm afraid. You must make your own
decisions about whose advice is good, there is no moderation here.

The IPC people who dreamed this up this "TechNet Legend" stuff for the
conference chose at least passably well, and if they do it again, you will
get straight answers to your questions, which is all that should be
expected.
