Yep Earl...

I 'member...got to VP-50 just after that happened. One of them strange deals,
it was a real bummer...crystal clear day, could see forever...both planes got
cleared for the same runway and just happened to positioned in such a way that
neither one could see each other until it was too late. Only survivor from
that tragedy was a an aft observer on the P-3 who was strapped-in with BOTH
his lap-belt AND shoulder harness but got thrown clear of the main wreckage
and was covered by some debris, then got run over by a crash truck responding
from Moffet, they didn't see him beneath the debris. He didn't get killed, but
put him in a wheelchair. They found the seat he was sitting in among the
wreckage and the lap-belt and shoulder harness were still latched together!
Yet there's those that say miracles don't happen...

Then, about a year later (during safety stand-down no less), our squadron
was in the spaces on the northwest corner of hangar-3 when they were closing
the doors during a rainstorm (not supposed to move the doors if the wind was
above 15-knots), one of the doors came off the tracks and fell...and you know
how big those doors are. Crushed the duty truck 'till it was about 3-feet tall
and knocked the MAD boom offa our hanger queen! Nobody got hurt thank god.
Yepper! Those were the good-ol-days...

P.S. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Earl!
