Hi Angie, I am a little confused with your dilemma. I thought a PCI
connector was a surface mount device? If this the case, you can use a wave
solder pallet to mask off from the bottom side around the PCI connector
location. The composite material that is used reacts as a heat sink and
prevents top-side reflow around any, or all, given area's. This can include
connectors, BGA's etc..
If the PCI connector is actually a through hole devise, you can utilize
the pallet to expose just the area that needs solder. A paddle then can be
placed over the device to keep it stable through out the process. This is
called a selective solder pallet. A fixture can minimize the labor that is
involved with PCB assembly. If I can answer any question that you may have
with this, or any other application, please contact me off line.

Subject: [TN] Warped boards at PCI connector?

To technet
I have this board that is 18 by 14 though hole and SMT. After reflow the
board
looks good not warped. Once assembled and sent to wave the board warps,
only
around the PCI connectors. It warps so bad I don't have any lead
protrusion. I
have tried to run this board many ways fast slow and minimal preheat. I
still
have this problem. Has anyone ran into this problem before? Is this common
around PCI connectors? I recall this happening once before many years ago,
I
resolved it by tacking down the edge and middle of the connectors then
masking. Is this the only fix? Any other suggestions

Thanks in advance
Angie
