Jim :
Here are a few treatments in order of bond strength:

        1) There is a Boeing procedure that is based on a Phosphoric
anodizing process that is exceptionally good. Remember
to get the material unsealed as the sealing compound will
prevent good adhesion. ( should be listed under an
         ASTM spec)

        2) If you require less adhesion then a commercial Phosphate
treatment will work .

3)If you want to do the work in house then try a degrease bath
followed by a pumice slurry to roughen the surface with a
         subsequent dry before bonding.

I'm looking for a procedure to prepare a cast aluminum (A356) core for
epoxy
bonding to a polyimide PWB. Any Recommendations?
