Was this part of AMP's white paper material available on their WEB page or
was this in a book you can purchase.

Hi Kenny - one more bit of information you may want to take a look
at -
"Connector Contacts: Critical Surfaces", author Robert Mroczkowski
of AMP
Inc, Advanced Materials & Processes inc. Metal Progress, 12/88,
pages
49-52. This reference covers the basics very well and talks about
the
pros/cons of tin. Good Luck.

Subject: [TN] Gold and Tin Interconnect
We have an assembly that uses tin plated pins and sockets for the
interconnection. We are having trouble getting the pin side in tin
but is
readily available in gold. My question is "is there any long term
problems
putting a gold pin in a tin plated socket"?
For years people have put I/C leads into gold sockets without
problem so it
seems that this should not be a problem but thought I'd ask for any
real
life experiences.
Thanks,
Ken Bloomquist
