I do not know about Viewdraw or Dx Database or PERL
scripts.  But...
If you can input data to the schematic via these
scripts, then why not input vital information into
your parts database in the same manner before the
schematic is drawn?  I use PADS-Perform and am able
to edit the total library in ASCII format.  This
helps a great deal when there is an overall general
change to be made such as adding an attribute.  I
have convinced our engineers to exclude cost data
from the pcb/schematic databases due to constant
change: unit cost, bulk cost, cost increases, etc.
Engineers like to have design costs handy, but there
are better ways to obtain that data than burdening
the board design database.

Probably of no help, but maybe supportive.
