I am suprised to hear that you are still using metal flow solder carriers.

I am based in the UK and have been using composite fixtures for many years.
We also use composite carriers for reflow soldering thin or odd shaped
PCB's.

The material that our carriers are made from is CDM (Composite Delmat
Material). This material is similar to fibre glass but a lot denser.

The material gives many benifits as listed below.

1. The Coef. of Expansion is closer to the PCB than metal is. So if the
fixture is tight damage is less likely to occur.

2. The material is a good insulator so it will not remove heat from where
you want it, namely the PCB and the solder pot.

3. Because it doesnt get so as hot, the operators manage to keep the top
layer of skin on their fingers.

4. It is very easy to modify in house.

5. The solder won't stick to it.

6. It wont bend like metal does. So it keeps the PCB's flat over the wave.

Just a few points. I'm sure that our supplier could tell you more.
