Linda,

We have run a number of experiments using 20 mil (.5mm) pitch on HAL and
immersion gold finishes. Based on the results we have migrated to immersion
gold on all our fine pitch. We have also done some work looking at OSP
finishes and tin coatings. Our product end use precludes us from using OSP
but the initial investigations into tin coatings look promising.

Talk with you board supplier.

Subject: [TN] PCB for fine pitch

Hi Technetters,
It is time to ask advice from the experts so here I am. I need some help,
as
usual. I think I need you guys and gals about once a month. Thanks for
being
here.

Here is the problem. If you have a board that has 15 mil pitch should the
board be tin/lead plated or should it have a flash of gold? I have heard
that
gold flashing is a must for 15 mil boards. So tell me, what is the
answer.
Also if you had any problems and solutions you would like to share with
this
pitch of component.

Thanks in advance,

Linda Zellars
