To my knowledge and from past experience the smoke should not be a problem.
However, if your HALT test can do this do your assembly, are you not concerned
that your test is something other than a 'Highly Accellerated Life Test'? By
those results, dropping your assemblies from the Empire State Building may
also qualify as HALT. What relationship exists between your HALT test  and the
REAL functional conditions of your product?
