We had this problem on an older model Hollis machine, oh - around 20 years ago. This machine, as I
remember, had bottom side heaters. I figured that the expansion of the hot solder at the bottom of the pot
builds up enough pressure that it eventually finds a weak spot in the cooler upper crust and then it does
it's Mt. St. Helen imitation. We manufactured a cover that covered the pot and conveyor chain and just let
her spit up every morning.

We have never seen this problem on our newer Hollis machine because it has side heaters that melt the
solder top to bottom, thus giving the expanding solder relief. I suppose a cartridge heater could be
mounted at a side location to similarly create a vent for bottom heated machines.
