Its dependent on how/where/when they heat the solder.  If the bottom is molten
before the top, it will splatter through like a volcano.  Its similar to cooking
a pot of tomato sauce on the stove - the bottom heats first and if you stick
your head over it long enough, you'll get sauce in your face.

I know other wave solder manufacturers have designed the heating elements such
that this will not happen.

Good luck and keep your face away from the solder and sauce.
