I am translating a PWB technical skills competency test from Japanese into
English. There are references to two patterning methods termed "risu" and
"rasu." These words are probably abbreviations of English words with
Japanese pronunciations.

My guess was that they were short for "lithography" ("risu" -- the Japanese
tend to pronounce "l" like "r" and "th" like "s") vs. "raster," but it says
that the "rasu" method is quicker than "risu" (when, if I am not mistaken,
isn't photolithography much faster than direct raster writing?), and
"lithography" is usually abbreviated "riso" not "risu." Could it be that
"risu" is referring to something else altogether?

Thanks for your help!

Warren Smith
