Stuart, I would suggest that you go through the components in your CAD
library and optimise the drill holes wherever you can, the increased number
of drill
sizes means more drilling work = more time to drill = more cost for
manufacturing the boards = more for you to pay for your boards.
Do your components really have leads that are only 3 thou different in width
?
I find that most components fit in a range of standard hole sizes and when I
am producing the Gerber files & Excellon drill files for each board I
allways do a check plot
of the drilling drawing/NC file and check to see if there are any components
that have
odd sizes.
If I find any & the components will fit in a std hole (0.8/1.0/1.3mm etc)
the I modify the board to suit & then the component in the library for
future use.
I too have upgraded my CAD libraries (Cadstar for Windows) however I will
not use a
component for the first time from it without first checking it out in the
component editor
and ensuring that it fits in with my usual working practices & dimensions
for hole sizes/outline widths/text sizes etc.
This makes for a much easier job than having to mess around with things once
the board is completed & its causing a hassle over drill sizes etc.
