Having said all that, I really would NOT be happy if a supplier
omitted the label - it would make me wonder what other processes
were out of control. I've come to the realization that one
defect begets another - and not necessarily related!

Jan,
Ok. It... er.. sputter.. well, IPC-A-610 doesn't really require anything on
labels. The real specs that say "SHALL" are J-Std-001 Para 3.7 or
MIL-STD-1686. That is perhaps as it should be. You can use IPC-A-610 on
non-ESD products also.

The point of my response was that the REAL requirements placed on your
supplier needs to come thru the design authority (Drawing), or failing that,
the purchase order.

Okay, I must be missing something. Can someone point me to the
sentence that dictates the label is REQUIRED to be affixed? I
see where it speaks to a label and the contents of the label
terminology and visuals, but I can't for the life of me find
where it says it HAS to be affixed to the packaging! I see a
"should be", but I don't see a "must be" or "shall be"

        (Maybe it's too early!)
