Hi Cory,
Burn-In has to be specific to your product and is a functional test at extreme
allowable conditions for some time period; longer for immature products,
shorter or zero for mature products. Burn-In is a general 'shake, rattle &
roll' procedure designed to let you detect some accidental manufacturing
flaw/defect/ mishandling affecting function prior to shipping your product to
the customer; it is NOT a screen that will enhance reliabilty per se by
screening out latent defects.
For that you need an appropriate screening procedure, e.g. environmental
stress screening (ESS), that will bring suspected latent defects to failure
without significantly degrading good product.
